Lipstick Effect – A great Mood Elevator
Embracing The Power of Colour Cosmetics
My fascination with colour cosmetics started very young
It was further fuelled by the allure of makeup and the transformative power it holds
While I regularly wore Kajal, a traditional eye liner, it wasn’t until later in life that I discovered the joy of wearing lipstick
In our culture, Kajal was not considered as “make up”
On National Lipstick Day, July 29, I can’t help but reminisce about my love for lipsticks and how they have become an essential part of my beauty routine

My Love For Lipstick
As a child, Make-up was something reserved only for special occasions or outings and such occasions were rare in a year
My Mom’s orange red lipstick was the only vibrant cosmetic in our house
It served multiple purposes, acting both as a lip colour and a rouge, and occasionally even experimenting as an eye shadow
Being a full time mother, my mom never had a repertoire of other cosmetics and she never felt the need to have one
However, I couldn’t help but notice our Bhojpuri neighbour, who wore a bright red lipstick even while at home
The way her face lit up with confidence as she adorned that lipstick and a vibrant “Sindoor” in her hair parting, left a lasting impression on me
She was the protagonist personified of the popular Bhojpuri song “Tu lagavelu jo liposhteek…lollipop laagely” !
As a child I used to wonder why she wore lipstick at home but surely, her husband seemed to be quite affectionate as was evident with the growing number of their family members !
Long Live Lipstick!
National Lipstick Day is on July 29 Whether it is classic red or subtle nude, lipstick transforms and uplifts. Long Live Lipstick!
Lipstick, my Must Have for Make Up Routine
Fast forward to my corporate life, when I embraced the world of make up with open arms
Lipstick and Lip Gloss became staples in my daily make up routine, effortlessly adding a pop of colour to my pale complexion
I just loved my “small” make up kit.
The world of make up further expanded with my stint at L’Oreal
Product evaluation Projects made me even more indulgent in exploring different make up options
I fell in love with the vibrant shades of Maybelline Lipsticks, the various shades of reds like this one below
and subtle nude shades of M.A.C like This One and you can check them out on Amazon via these affiliate links

Do Men Use Lipstick ?
With minimal effort, lipstick has the incredible ability to uplift and make one feel confident
It is a simple pleasure that I sometimes feel sorry men can’t experience (unless they are celebrities, of course)
However, there are some Lip Balms specially for men as this one
These lip balms for men are mostly used for moisturization, softness, soothness, brightening, ligtening, brightening effect
Yes and a brand like Beardo for Men also promises to make lips “kissable”
This particular variant of Non Tinted Lip Balm for Men provides a Lip Mask for Dry, Cracked and Chapped Lips. And lo, behold, you turn into a Kiss Magnet !
When Lipsticks Lost Out To Eye Liners
Alas, when COVID arrived, like people, make-up cabinet, too went into quarantine
Masks took away lipstick’s freedom
Masks became a necessary accessory and wearing lipstick underneath them felt impractical and unnecessary
It didn’t seem right to sit all made up just for a zoom work call
As a result, lip liners and lip balms in subtle colours took over as my go-to alternatives
While my love for lipsticks remained unwavering, the circumstances compelled me to adapt and explore different options
As I stepped of my home with just a lip balm under my mask, I couldn’t help but miss the joy and confidence that lipstick brought to my everyday life
While lipstick took a temporary back seat in out beauty routines, other beauty products saw this opportunity for a business boom
Eyeliners and eye shadows became the focal points of our make up routine, providing a way to enhance our eyes even when half of our faces are covered by masks

Here are some of the eye liners and gels that are my favourite
